Syrah McGivern is a Registered Dietitian living in Medford, Massachusetts. She is a nature lover and a mom and passionate about healthy food for all. She has extensive experience in community nutrition and loves farmer’s markets, gardening, learning about our microbiome, cooking, skiing, supporting local businesses and inspiring people to find out where their food comes from.
She graduated from Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in 2007 where she earned her masters in the Agriculture, Food and the Environment Program under Willie Lockeretz and Kathleen Merrigan.
In 2009, she completed the requirements to become a Registered Dietitian in New Orleans under the auspices of Marsha Piacun at Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
She has been teaching low-income families how to eat better for less with Cooking Matters Massachusetts since 2005.
She supported the creation of the Medford Community Garden Commission in 2015 and established a walking advocacy group, Walk Medford in 2015. She established the Medford Food Security Taskforce in 2017 and has served on the Medford Farmers Market Board of Directors and the Cooking Matters Massachusetts Advisory Board.
